Cubs Spring Training Ends With Record
Attendance!
The Chicago Cubs wrap up their 2009
spring training season with 18 wins, 16
losses, and 2 ties. With an extended
schedule and the addition of 4 extra home
games, the Cubs were able to break an
all-time Major League Baseball attendance
record of 203,105 fans. The last record was
set in 2005 by the Cubs with an MLB
attendance of 193,993 fans.
“It is an
accomplishment,” Hohokam Stadium Manager,
Dave Dunne said. “We didn’t know what to
expect, especially in this economy but it’s
great to know that fans still made it a
priority to come out this season to support
the Cubs.”
This year,
six consecutive spring training games drew
more than 13,000 fans. The upgrades to
Hohokam Stadium made it possible to
accommodate more fans with additional
bleacher seating and an expanded two-tiered
tent, totaling the capacity to 13,030 seats.
The Cubs have
not set their 2010 spring training schedule
but Dunne hopes they can still break
attendance records next year. “Whatever next
season looks like, we’ll be here to make the
Cubs and fan experience top-notch. We’re
looking forward to another successful year.” |
